What is Transition?
By: Kelly Elton
By definition according to Merriam-Webster online, transition is a movement, development, or evolution from one form, stage, or style to another. Transition for individuals with disabilities is the passage from childhood to adult. What constitutes one’s ability to transition? Like each person, one’s ability to transition is as unique as them. In a recent episode of Meet the Peete’s airing on Hallmark Channel, the Peete family graciously offered viewers an opportunity to gain insight into RJ Peete’s transition. Transition has to be individualized but Holly Peete addressed many common fears that I have heard from parents and how it is a struggle knowing how unkind the world can be. How does a family address this? I am not sure, as I said it needs to be individualized and one answer for one family might not fit the dynamic of another.
